    About CBT Systems

CBT Systems Ltd is a dedicated Theory Training Provider for the Aviation industry in New Zealand. Our Computer Based Training Courses are orientated specifically around the New Zealand Civil Aviation (NZCAA) examination syllabus for each pilot licence subject.  A large number of people struggle with huge volumes of manuals that require careful study. Our on-line training courses have been specifically developed to ensure that students who are more attuned to 'visual learning' can experience and readily understand difficult concepts by easily explained visual presentations.

    More than a qualification

Aviation by its very nature depends upon highly trained and skilled and motivated people. This means that you need sound tuition right from the start of your career to ensure that later courses of training are more easily understood. There are no 'short cuts' in aviation. At CBT Systems our focus is ensuring that students have a highest level of training possible to ensure success. We consider the NZCAA licence syllabus to be the minimum standard required and our courses are designed to a higher standard. After all ‘Knowledge is Power’.

    Gateway/STAR Aeroscience Programme

The CBT Systems Secondary School Gateway/STAR Aeroscience Programme offers the ideal quick start. It positions students for a career as a pilot and opens other career path options too. For example: meteorologist, aeronautical engineer, air traffic controller and many more. It also applies practical science – a perfect match with your existing curriculum.

Experience Aviation Engineering at NMIT and find out how you can make your career fly.

"CBT Systems ‘Aeroscience’ program provides a great pathway to NMIT’s two-year programme of hands-on learning with real aircraft at the RNZAF Woodbourne Base in Blenheim. Students come from all over the country to learn the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in the commercial aeronautical engineering industry. Book a Career Conversation with us today to chat about your learning pathway."

Airways New Zealand - Air Traffic Controller Training

"Airways New Zealand has reviewed the CBT Systems ‘Aeroscience’ program for secondary schools and supports its goals, content, and the focus of this program as a lead-in or preparatory course for studies in air traffic control, including the New Zealand Certificate in Air Traffic Services (Level 5)."

    Careers in Aviation

Airlines are now starting to emerge from the effects of Covid19. As a Pilot it typically takes 5-6 years to obtain your first airline pilot job from  the time you start your flight training, so you should not delay your training.

There are also numerous career path options in aviation that are not pilot specific. It is estimated that for every pilot, there are 100 related aviation professionals. Here is a presentation by Massey Aviation providing an overview of the many exciting aviation related career pathways available to you:

    Massey University School of Aviation

"While Massey University is not affiliated with CBT Systems, we do provide a number of tertiary courses in the area of aviation, and by doing a Gateway or a Structured Course such as what you are doing now through CBT Systems, that provides a nice gateway into doing tertiary studies with an institution such as ours."

The Benefits of Visual Learning and Teaching

Introducing a consistent visual component to the curriculum can:

    • help students better engage with the materials
    • increase retention by 29-42%
    • develop higher-order thinking skills
    • hone fundamental abilities that enable students to see and conceptualize visuals clearly
    • enhance tactile hand-eye-mind connections that improve the ability to recall facts and retain learning
    • serve the unique needs of learners who process information primarily through visuals, as well as increase learning for all students.

    Private Pilot Licence Syllabus Requirements

In the ‘olden’ days, the NZCAA PPL Syllabus requirement was so small that only one book was required. Today’s Private Pilot can be rated to fly a huge variety of aircraft with varying degrees of sophistication.  The introduction of new subject matter over a long number of years now means that serious consideration must be given to a Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) knowledge base. The Private Pilot Licence syllabus requirement specified by the NZCAA PPL Syllabus can be downloaded from the NZCAA website here: https://www.aviation.govt.nz/rules/advisory-circulars/show/AC61-3

    Time to complete

The CBT Systems standard time frame to complete the course and pass the Aspeq licence assessment is set at three months from enrollment. Should you have any special requirements please contact us to discuss. Our objective is to ensure that you pass the course! Obviously, we will be more flexible during this difficult (Corona  Virus) period. The 'Aeroscience' Schools program is tailored to meet the School Term Year and external examination requirements.

    ATTENTION SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

There are now two Aviation related Gateway Courses that are available for Secondary School Students:

    • The ‘Aviation Gateway Flying Programme’

    And

    • The new CBT Systems ‘Aviation Gateway Aeroscience Program’

The Flying Program continues (as normal) delivering a good general course for students to discover the world of aviation (Recommended for Year 11&12) , while the‘Aeroscience Program’ is a more demanding theory training course specifically targeted at Year 13 students (from Term 1 - 2021) who may be interested in an Aviation Related Career or the skill set that may be gained from the more specific subject matter.

    The 'Aeroscience' Program

Specifically, the ‘Aeroscience Program’ delivers the following:

    •  Students do not have to want a career as a pilot – they can still engage in the program and gain a minimum of 20 NCEA Credit points at Level 3.

    •  Students who may wish to become a pilot can obtain up to 33 NCEA Credit points at Level 3.
